Today was an exhausting tour of Asuncion. We went all over the city on buses today and tried to get a sense of the situation here. The buses are an eternal fountain of joy for me. I love them. They are all about life, motion and fun.
I enjoyed walking around the capitol, and was not a surprised as Andrea to see pigs, chickens, slums and riches. Here is a Beamer that was on the street:
It was so amazing to see the powerful contrast of rich and poor here. That contrast shocked me because I am not used to seeing it in such close proximity. A woman and a girl both came and begged us for money in front of this exotic sports car. The national congress building looks like some New York arts center, that is surrounded by people who hold the tin roofs on their houses with random trash and bricks. I can't imaging living in front of that offending opulence which was built on the backs of the people.
Here is a video of the little park in front of the congress building. Can you imagine this in Washington DC in front of congress in the future of the US? Also, a state of emergency was declared today in the northern states to fight a small band of anti-government insurgents.

So, I love the water heater... looks like the ones we had in the DR. I always wondered about the huge lever to turn them on and off right there next to the shower...bare metal prongs and all :) You're looking great! --Lin
